Regularly groom your dog to keep him happy, healthy

June 21, 2011 by Jennifer Simms Leave a Comment

There are a number of well-known ways to keep dogs healthy and happy. Proper nutrition, as well as getting them plenty of exercise are both excellent choices, but one area of dog ownership that may sometimes go overlooked is grooming. According to the Vancouver Sun, regularly grooming one’s dog prevents a whole host of health-related issues, and keeping yours coat-well maintained will make for one happy pooch.

Most of the problems associated with sub-par grooming occur when dogs shed, and the excess hair gets tangled up in their fur. In addition to being uncomfortable for the dog, this can lead to skin abrasions, which can then lead to flies. Luckily, preventing such dramatic health issues from happening is not too difficult.

A good way to prevent flies from pestering your dog is to make use of Flys-Off ointment. This effective and useful medication kills flies on contact and can be used on and around sensitive areas that are susceptible to the insects.

The news source reports that preventative grooming prevents flies as well and is not too hard for the average pet owners to accomplish. Just stick to the tools that are specially made for your dog’s coat, and regularly brushing them will go a long way in keeping them healthy. For example, an Oster Home Grooming Kit is worthwhile purchase as it comes with all the items necessary to groom your dog, from six snap on comb attachment to a home clipping step-by-step manual.

There are also a wide variety of professional groomers available to the general public that can make the process easier.

While preventative grooming is a great way to keep your dog’s coat looking its best, there are several other ways to go about it as well. Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the best nutrients to keep your dog’s coat healthy, and the Super Pure Omega 3 supplements are an easy way to provide plenty of the useful substance. Not only will it be beneficial to your dog’s fur, but it offers many advantages when it comes to maintaining healthy joints, organs and skin as well.
