Keep dogs happy in between grooming sessions

June 22, 2011 by Jennifer Simms Leave a Comment

As most dog owners know, keeping your pet well-groomed offers a number of different benefits. In addition to maintaining your dog’s beautiful coat, making sure that your pet is groomed will reduce the chances of many health problems, including painful tangled fur and the presence of flies and all the issues they present.

However, while many pet owners will regularly take their dogs to a professional groomer, some may not know exactly what to do in between each appointment. According to Holliston Patch, there are a number of different things you can do between each grooming session to keep your dog healthy, happy and looking good.

One of the easiest ways to maintain your dog’s fur is to take their collar off every once in a while. If they’re going to be hanging around the house, removing the collar will reduce the chances of skin irritation and won’t mat the fur. Furthermore, the news source recommends immediately cleaning the collar if it ever becomes wet or damp.

In addition to removing your dog’s collar, you will also want to regularly brush his or her coat. By regularly brushing and combing the animal’s fur, you’ll be able to maintain his or her appearance in between each grooming session, and doing so at home does not take much effort. Resco Pro-Series Large Slicker Brush is an excellent choice for pet owners as it effectively removes any excess hair thanks to its quality dual stainless steel bristles.

Along with paying attention to the fur, pet owners should try keeping up with other aspects of their dog as well. In particular, ears can be especially susceptible to infection. According to the news source, floppy-eared dogs are especially vulnerable to infection, and owners may want to regularly clean their dogs ears, using a cotton ball around the inside to keep it free of bacteria.

For an especially easy way to clean your dog’s ears, you may want to pick up 1-800-PetMeds Ear Cleansing Solution. This pleasantly-scented product not only cleans and deodorizes dogs’ ears, but is also gentle enough to be used every day.

By keeping your dog regularly clean and happy in between each grooming session, you will not only be doing them a favor, but you’ll be making your own life easier as well.
